Ivorian energy company Biovea Energie will construct the Ayébo biomass power plant in the south-western Ivory Coast region of Aboisso. The biomass power plant is expected to generate 46 MW of electricity, primarily from palm oil waste.

Earth works operations at the Ayébo plant commenced on February 24, 2022, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2023. The power plant will be using 480,000 tons of palm oil agricultural waste to generate 46 MW of electricity, supplied by 12,000 farmers over a 25-year period.

Biovea Energie will invest approximately €200 million in the power plant, with additional funding expected from the Private Infrastructure Development Group as well as from the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund.

As part of the logistics and supply chain of the project, the Movis Ivory Coast transportation company will oversee the transportation of biomass to and from collection points as well as the power plant.
